Prayer for illumination 4
❖ The immeasurable greatness of his power in us who believe
Eph 1:19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might
Paul prays that we may know the greatness of his power. This power of God is immeasurable. Because it is not limited to time and space, it is the omnipotent power of God. Think of the most incredible force in this world, the power of gravity, maybe? The power of a hydrogen bomb, the power of a hurricane, the power of the sun. They are powers that boggle the mind. The power of life, your life, of your body, to heal itself is enormous. These are great powers. God controls all these powers, the power of gravity, and the sun, of natural phenomena. But some powers are evil. The power of sin, lust, greed, fear, anxiety, jealousy, and hatred are evil forces. These are also powers, and we can add to this list the power of Satan. And most powerful of them all is the power of death.
But, believer, God wants you to have illumination, to see, know and savour a greater power, the power of God in Christ. God wants you to know that He can overcome all other powers, the most extraordinary powers that attempt to overpower us, the power of sin and death.
God wants you to be enlightened every day, to see, know and savour the power of Christ to deliver you from all your sins, to remove all your sins from you, and to deliver you from the power of self, materialism, greed, fear, anxiety and lust. He can set you free and cleanse you, and raise you when you die. Christ has conquered the grave. He has defeated the greatest powers, Satan, sin and death. And this power is available to you who believe. The power of God is eternal and omnipotent; there is the power to overcome sin.
