Prayer for illumination (Part 5)

Prayer for illumination 5

5. The working of His great might in Christ

Eph 1:19 …according to the working of his great might

Eph 1:20  that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,

Eph 1:21  far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

Eph 1:22  And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church,

Eph 1:23  which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Now in the next section, we actually have a new unit, and it elaborates on what kind of power is at work in us. The power that is available to us is the same power that,

❖ Raised Christ from the dead

❖ And seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places

And I, therefore, believe this is the fourth and most important thing we need to see, know, and savour because all the other things hinge or depend on what is to follow.

God wants us to be enlightened and illuminated, first and foremost, about the Person and work of Christ and the gospel. Because what we find in these verses is, in fact, about the gospel.

And that is that God raised Christ from the dead! And Christ ascended into heaven, and God seated him at His right hand in the heavenly places.

So, in this section, we see the supremacy of Christ over death, earthly powers, angelic powers, and demonic powers, that His Name, His Person is Supreme and more important than all others, in this age, in the age to come, over people in the world, and who has lived in the past and also in the Church.

❖ Raised Christ from the dead

Christ rules over death. He is supreme over death. By his sinless life and atonement, he defeated death and stood victorious over this power. His power is unmatched.

❖ And Seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places

Because of His life, death and resurrection, because of his perfect work, God exalted Him above all others. Now he is seated at the right hand of the Father, which means his work is completed; he has conquered his foes, sin, death and the devil, and now is at the Father’s right hand, which means he is at the place of privilege and supreme authority. No authority is more significant than His. (See Matthew 28:18-20).

The fact that Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father has specific implications. There are four:

▪ Above all, rule and authority and power and dominion

These words mean that every human ruler, or government, in the past and present and future, are under Christ; this included the Roman Emporers, the Popes of the past, Napoleon, Nero, and every great leader that has ever lived, and also any government or council that has existed and now exist, which include, the United Nations, the European Union, the USA, China and all Big Tech companies, all authorities are under him, he is above them, Christ rules over them. He is supreme. It also includes angelic and demonic powers, which are eternal. They are all also under his feet, Satan, and all forces that exist today and that will exist.

▪ Above every name in this age and the next

And also “above every name that is named”. The wealthiest and most famous people who have ever lived and are now living, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and every famous person, every name that can be named, are under his feet. Christ rules over them and has authority over them.

▪ Put all things under his feet in the universe

“not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet.”

This means when we die, every generation that has lived and will live is and will be under his feet—all people and angelic beings and demonic powers and anything that exist are under him. Christ rules over them, now and Forever.

▪ Gave Him to be head over all in the church

Eph 1:22  And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church,

Eph 1:23  which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Pray constantly for open heart eyes to see and know and savour the supremacy of Christ over all. Amen
